You know the feeling all to well. You start your day and you are feeling fantastic! You go through your daily routine fishing in that proverbial pond (the internet) with your bait on the end of your line and then it happens…

You get a couple of bites that are really excited about what you are offering. They say they are ready to get started and will pay as soon as you get done with them on the phone. Naturally, you get excited! You tell the spouse you’re going to dinner to celebrate two large sales coming your way.

For the rest of the day you are on cloud nine happily working until you receive an email saying, “I can’t start today; it’s not the right time”.

Sound familiar?

In a few hours you have gone from feeling like a million bucks to bankrupt. The excitement you enjoyed throughout the day has turned into sorrow and disdain.

Why? Because you chose to be an entrepreneur!

If you are an entrepreneur like me, then these are the ups and downs that you signed up for. This is your reality.  Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to endure these realities. They think it will be a cake walk. This is no cake walk. If you don’t learn to handle the ups and downs then they will crush you.

As an entrepreneur, you are always going to have set backs…big and small but you have to fight through it. You have to learn how to deal with them in order to push forward.

So In order to work through those disappointments, I want to share with you a 3 step program to help you out.

  1. Give yourself time to soak in what has happened. Take the time to cry, exercise, complain, whatever helps, just get it out of your system. Now before you think you can take a week to get yourself together, well think again. This process should not take longer than 24hours.
  2. The next this minor incident should be behind you. If it is not, get rid of it right away because it is time to move forward. Remind yourself about the things that you have already accomplished and of setbacks that you have already overcome.
  3. Create a reason why the rejection or setback was the greatest thing that could have happened to you and how it is going to benefit your business and brand. How has it strengthen you?

In order for you to get stronger, you have to encounter some hardships. Success doesn’t come free of mistakes and aggravation…if it did everyone would be successful. See going from a million bucks to bankrupt is the only way to get there. It may seem hard and discouraging at times but you have to go through it to get where you want to be. It is the only way. So get a board and ride the wave! You will be happy you did.
